Qāḍī Shurayḥ
Appointed judge of Kufa by ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, he sat for some sixty years. When ʿAlī — then Caliph — brought a claim without a witness to support it, Shurayḥ ruled against him.
That is the standard the college is named for: the evidence decides, and it decides the same way for everyone.
