Counsellor rights:
The counsellor operating within Shurayh Counselling Practice is entitled and should expect the following in the counselling practice: – Respect, from both clients and staff members – Payment for their services – The right to refuse/recommend clients based on their preference and/or discretion – The right to end the counselling session if the client’s behaviour is dangerous to the client, counsellor or the practice.
Counsellor obligation:
To be respectful and try earnestly to build rapport with the client – Deliver his services to the best of his ability – To read out the client’s rights during the initial session – To try one’s best to empathise with the client’s situation and help them strategise methods to improve
Counsellor discipline:
If any counsellor is found to be breaching the obligations, the matter may:
- Be discussed internally with management, including one provisional warning.
- Be raised to professional standards bodies.
- Be raised to law enforcement, if and when necessary.
Client rights:
The client is entitled to the following at the Shurayh Counselling practice: –
- Respect, from both therapists and other staff members
- The service that they have bought
- The right to leave a counselling session whenever they need to. Note: Payment will still be charged unless decided otherwise by management, on a case by case basis.
- Confidentiality of what is discussed during the therapy sessions
- The upholding of professional standards on and offsite
- To be informed of their rights prior to the commencement of the therapy session.
- To choose the therapist they would like to visit, pending availability and other deciding factors.
Client obligation:
- To be respectful at all times with the counsellor and staff members
- To inform the counsellor and/or staff about changes to their counselling schedules, such as unable to attend a counselling session
